How does a flushing porta potty work without plumbing?
A flushing porta potty carries its own fresh water. Pressing the foot pump rinses the bowl with clean water, and everything drains into the 60-gallon holding tank below. The sink uses a second foot pump. No hose, sewer or electric hookup is needed, so the unit works anywhere a standard unit fits.

Flushing unit or standard porta potty: which should I rent?
Rent a flushing unit when guests are the users and a standard unit when workers are. The flushing unit costs about $70 more per event in Oxnard, but it looks cleaner after every use and lets guests wash their hands inside. For crews, the standard unit plus a hand-wash station is the better value.
| Standard | Flushing with sink | |
|---|---|---|
| Flush | No | Yes, foot pump |
| Hand washing | Sanitizer | Sink with soap and towels |
| Best for | Jobsites, farm crews, casual parties | Parties, showers, weddings, older guests |
| Starting price (event) | $175 | $245 |
| Needs hookups | No | No |
| Limitation | No running water | Fresh-water tank can run low at very busy events; add service |
How many flushing units for a party?
A 100-guest party of 4 hours needs 2 flushing units, the same count as standard units. The flushing tank holds the same 60 gallons, so the guest chart does not change. The fresh-water tank is the limit at very busy events, so for 200 or more guests, add one extra unit or a mid-event service.
Worked example: a quinceañera in La Colonia with 180 guests for 6 hours. The chart says 4 units for 200 guests at 5–6 hours. Beer is served, so add 1. Total: 5 flushing units, plus 1 wheelchair-accessible unit if any guest uses a wheelchair or walker. See the full sizing chart.
Flushing porta potty questions
Do flushing porta potties need a water hookup?
No. The flushing unit has its own fresh-water tank for the flush and the sink. We fill it before delivery and refill it on every service visit. No hose, sewer or power is needed.
Is a flushing porta potty the same as a restroom trailer?
No. A flushing unit is a single portable stall with a foot-pump flush and sink. A restroom trailer has porcelain toilets, vanities, lights and climate control, and it needs level ground and an electrical outlet.
Does a flushing porta potty smell less?
Usually, yes. The flush rinses the bowl so waste is not left in view, and the deodorizer stays in the tank below. Odor control still depends on shade and on-time service.
Can I get a flushing unit the same day?
Often. Flushing units are fewer than standard units, so same-day delivery depends on stock. Call by 1 pm and we will confirm on the phone. For weekend parties, book by Wednesday.
Can I get a flushing unit for a long-term rental?
Yes. Some homeowners rent a flushing unit during a remodel when family members share the jobsite. It is billed every 28 days with weekly service, the same as a standard unit.
