When is a hand-washing station required?
California farms must provide 1 hand-washing facility for every 20 field workers. The facility must be within a quarter-mile walk or 5 minutes, whichever is shorter, under Cal/OSHA Title 8 §3457. Food vendors at permitted events usually need hand-washing too, set by the county health permit.
| Situation | Rule or recommendation | Stations |
|---|---|---|
| Farm field crew | Cal/OSHA §3457: 1 per 20 workers, legal minimum | 20 workers = 1; 40 = 2 |
| Jobsite | Our recommendation: 1 per 2 toilets | 4 toilets = 2 |
| Party with food | Our recommendation: 1 per 4 toilets, minimum 1 | 5 toilets = 2 |
| Event food vendors | Set by the county health permit | Ask your permit office |
Rule text: Cal/OSHA Title 8 §3457, Field Sanitation. Not legal advice; confirm with your permit office or safety lead.
Hand-washing station questions
Does a hand-washing station need a water hookup?
No. The station carries 22 gallons of fresh water and catches used water in its own 24-gallon tank. We fill it before delivery and empty and refill it on every service.
Is the water heated?
No. Our standard stations use room-temperature water. Ask about heated models for winter jobs in cold mountain areas.
Can I rent a hand-washing station by itself?
Yes. Some food vendors and garden events rent stations alone. One trip charge covers every unit going to the same address.
How often is a hand-washing station serviced?
On monthly rentals, once a week along with the toilets. Busy farm crews and food events may need two visits a week, and we can schedule that.
Is the station accessible?
The Bravo sinks sit at a standard height. For a wheelchair user, place the station on firm, level ground with clear space in front.
