What does Cal/OSHA require for farm field sanitation?
California farms must provide 1 toilet and 1 hand-washing facility for every 20 field workers, separate for each sex. The facilities must be within a quarter-mile walk or 5 minutes, whichever is shorter. Cal/OSHA Title 8 §3457 sets these rules, with exceptions for very short shifts and crews under 5 doing hand labor.
| Crew size | Toilets (legal minimum) | Hand-wash facilities | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–20 | 1 per sex group | 1 | 1 toilet + 1 Bravo station |
| 21–40 | 2 per sex group of 21–40 | 2 | Twice-weekly service in summer |
| 41–60 | 3 per sex group of 41–60 | 3 | Two drop points on long blocks |

How do field units move with the crew?
Call by 1 pm with the new block, a map pin and the gate code, and we move the toilets and hand-wash stations, usually the same day. A move is billed as one trip charge. Units ride on a trailer so the driver can set them at the field edge, close to where the crew is picking.
- Send a map pin, not just the ranch name; the Oxnard Plain has many look-alike field roads.
- Mark a spot the truck can reach on a dry farm road.
- Keep units off fresh-irrigated furrows; trucks get stuck.
- Shade from a windbreak or packing shed helps in the heat.
Farm & field units questions
Do you rent toilets for strawberry harvest crews?
Yes. Strawberry harvest on the Oxnard Plain is one of our busiest seasons. We size units to Cal/OSHA's 1 per 20 workers and move them as picking moves.
Does a farm need hand-wash stations or is sanitizer enough?
Cal/OSHA §3457 calls for hand-washing facilities with water, soap and single-use towels for field crews. Sanitizer alone does not meet that rule. Our Bravo stations carry 22 gallons of fresh water.
How often should field toilets be serviced?
At least weekly. Crews of 20 or more in summer heat usually need twice-weekly service. We set the service day so it does not land on your busiest pick.
Can you serve farms in Santa Paula, Fillmore and Carpinteria?
Yes. Santa Paula and Fillmore are on our Highway 126 route, and Carpinteria is on our 101 route. Lompoc farms are served on scheduled days.
Can units stay out for the whole season?
Yes. Season-long rentals use the 28-day rate with weekly service and moves billed as you need them.
