Porta Potties in Santa Ana Winds: How to Keep Units Upright
Santa Ana winds sweep through Camarillo, Simi Valley and the Oxnard Plain from fall into winter. An empty porta potty on open ground can tip. A few steps at delivery prevent it.

Why do porta potties tip in wind?
An empty standard porta potty weighs about 165 pounds and stands 91 inches tall, so a strong gust can push it over. Units on open lots with no wall or fence nearby are most at risk. A unit with waste in the tank is heavier and more stable.
How do you anchor a porta potty?
We stake units into dirt or strap them to a fence, post, block wall or heavy object. On concrete with nothing nearby, we can place units in a sheltered spot beside a building or trailer. Tell us if your lot is open when you book.
Where should units go on windy sites?
- Beside a building, wall or parked trailer on the side away from the wind.
- Door facing away from the wind so it does not slam.
- Never on a slope or at the edge of a trench.
What if a unit tips over?
Keep people away and call us right away. A tipped unit can spill waste and needs cleanup. We right it, clean it and swap it if needed. Damage from tipping can be billed under the rental terms, so anchoring at delivery is worth it.
